SALEM, Virginia -- Ferrum College dropped a non-conference volleyball match to Maryville College this afternoon in day two action at the Maroon Classic, hosted by Roanoke College at the Cregger Center. Set scores were 25-10, 25-15, 25-16.
Maryville raced out to a 13-5 lead in the first set and Ferrum could not recover. In the second set, the Panthers trailed 14-11, only to see the Scots use an 11-4 run to grab the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, Ferrum opened a 9-7 lead, with a couple key blocks from Cassidy Burke, Chemaiya Jordan and Layure Henley. Maryville stormed back from there to grab the set 25-15.
Arielle Tritt dished out seven assists for the Panthers, Kayla Divers had five digs and Molly Patterson had four digs to go with a pair of kills. Maggie Mathews led the Scots with 10 kills, while Saidee McDaniel had 15 assists and Meredith Bonee had 13 assists.
Coach Ruthanne Duffy's team will be back in action Wednesday, September 11, at Guilford College. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener is set for 7:00 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.
