FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's volleyball team won for the third time in as many outings with tonight's 3-0 non-conference sweep of visiting Mary Baldwin University. Set scores were 25-8, 25-14, 25-20.
Mary Badlwin (1-4)
The Panthers were hot out of the gates in rolling through the first set in just under 20 minutes, closing it out with a monster smash from freshman Kaelyn Daniel. Ashlynn Willoughby finished off a tidy second set with a kill to give Ferrum a commanding 2-0 lead. Mary Baldwin kept the third set close, trailing 20-19, but the Panthers closed it out by winning five of the final six points, including Chemaiya Jordan's kill to close out the match.
"I am very proud of the performance by all of the girls in tonight's match against Mary Baldwin. The effort from everyone so far this season has been top-notch and I think our team has the potential to have a strong season if we can continue improving each time we step on the court. Tonight gave everyone the opportunity to become more adjusted to the college pace of game and I think matches like this will have the entire team better prepared because of the experience" -- Head Coach Ruthanne Duffy
Coach Ruthanne Duffy's team will be back in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, at the Maroon Invitational, being hosted by Roanoke College. On Friday, the Panthers face Hollins University at 6 p.m. and Methodist University at 8:00 p.m. And on Saturday, Duffy's club will play Sewanee, University of the South at 1 p.m. and Mary Baldwin at 5 p.m.
