Women's Tennis Closes Season with 8-1 ODAC Road Win Over Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's tennis team wrapped up its 2018-19 season in style Sunday, April 28, with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference road win over Shenandoah University. The Panthers dominated singles play en route to an 8-1 thrashing at Lowry Tennis Courts.

Mallory Scott and Chelsea Zizzi made quick work of Caitlin Bennett and Madison Hoilman at #3 doubles, winning 8-0 to give Ferrum a 1-0 lead. Morgan Scott and Autum Murray-Burns made it a 2-0 match when they beat Madison Hansen and Madison Rogers 8-4 at #1 doubles.

Shenandoah's Megan Hillyard and Emma Crue broke up the shutout with an 8-5 SU win at #3 doubles over Alexandria Dixon and Jordan Thompson. That's all the Hornets would get as Ferrum reeled off six straight singles wins, all in straight sets, to close out the match.

Jordan Thompson's 6-1, 6-1 romp over Hillyard at #4 singles clinched the match for the Panthers. Morgan Scott won at #1 singles to cap an outstanding career. Murray-Burns, Dixon, Mallory Scott and Hailee Green were all winners at #2-3 and #5-6 singles, respectively. Green's match in the #6 spot was played as an eight point tie-breaker.

Ferrum closed out its season with a 9-10 overall record and 4-8 mark in the ODAC. Coach Rod Baker's team will have three seniors graduate in May, while seven players are eligible to return for the 2019-20 season.
