Greensboro Defeats Ferrum in Women's LAX

FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's lacrosse team led 2-1 early on but couldn't sustain the lead as Greensboro College came back to post a 14-5 USA South Athletic Conference win March 25 in Ferrum.

Monica Samayoa and Phylicia Garner each had two goals for Ferrum in the loss, while Jen Phan had the other.  All five goals were unassisted.

Greensboro (3-5, 1-1 USA South) got four goals and an assist from Christie Hebert.  Hebert's unassisted goal at the 6:56 mark of the first half put the Pride up 6-3 and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Layne Woodard had three goals and a pair of assists, Chelsea Farley had three goals and Toni Battaglia had two goals.  Melissa Gallaher and Ashle Nolen had solo goals for the Pride.

Greensboro goalkeeper Jessica Catanzo allowed two goals and made two saves in 36 minutes for the Pride.  Stacey Pulskamp allowed three goals and made one save in 24 minutes of play.  Velena Taylor played all 60 minutes in net for the Panthers, allowing 14 goals and making 11 saves.

Ferrum (2-5, 0-2 USA South) is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, March 31, at home against Methodist University.  The USA South match begins at 4 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
