HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's golf team competed for the first time this season, playing at the Bridgewater Fall Invitational Saturday, Sept. 22, at Lakeview Golf Club.
Ferrum's inaugural tournament was shortened to a one-day event due to rain. Christopher Newport University won the team title with a 320, two strokes better than runner-up Denison University. In all, 13 teams participated.
1. Christopher Newport 320; 2. Denison 322; 3. Stevenson 324; T4. Marymount (VA) 333; T4. Randolph-Macon 333; 6. Eastern 334; 7. Bridgewater 344; 8. Shenandoah 346; 9. Ohio Wesleyan 355; 10. Virginia Wesleyan 380; 11. Emory & Henry 408; 12. Sweet Briar 470; 13. Greensboro 488
Ferrum did not score as a team due to having only three individuals. The Panthers' top golfer was freshman Jetta Huffman, who carded an 11-over par 83 to finish in a five-way tie for 17th place in a field of 71 golfers. Hunter Tharpe tied for 29th place with an 86, and Jordan Thompson finished 63rd with a 117.
The Panthers will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7, at the Shenandoah Invitational, to be held at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.
