Mattox, Harvey Headline USA South All-Conference List

FERRUM, Va. -- The 2017 USA South Women's Basketball All-Conference Team has been announced and Ferrum College picked up two major awards. Junior guard Zarkia Mattox was named Player of the Year, while Bryan Harvey earned Coach of the Year honors. Garis Grant of Agnes Scott College collected Rookie of the Year honors.

Mattox was named to the league's East Division first team. She was also an All-Conference first pick last season. Mattox earned Player of the Week honors six times this season, including three straight Jan. 23, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. The league's All-Sportsmanship Team was also announced and Ferrum's Taylor Atkinson has been honored.

Mattox is averaging a double double with 21.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this season for Ferrum. She also averages 4.2 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Mattox had Ferrum's first-ever triple double, men's or women's, in a December 5 road win over Bridgewater College,. That night, she set Ferrum's new school record for single game points with 48 against the Eagles. Mattox has scored 20 or more points 11 times this season, dropped 30 or more points five times and topped the 40-point mark once.

This is the fifth USA South Coach of the Year honor for Harvey, including 2007, 2012, 2013 and 2014. His team takes a 17-8 overall record into the 2017 USA South Tournament. The Panthers finished 12-2 in league play this season and are the top seed in the East Division. Harvey's team will host first and second round games Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19. #4 seed North Carolina Wesleyan College and #5 William Peace University square off Saturday at 4 p.m., with the winner taking on Ferrum Sunday at 2 p.m.
