USA South Release
FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College junior guard Zarkia Mattox has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and was named USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her part in a 91-89 overtime win over Bridgewater College Dec. 5 on the road.
Mattox had a career night when she notched a triple-double with 48 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to help Ferrum win the non-conference road game over the Eagles. She is the first women's basketball player to record a triple-double since the College joined the NCAA Division III ranks in 1985.
Mattox's 48 points against Bridgewater is a new school record, surpassing the 44-point performance by Ann Reynolds against Emory & Henry College December 10, 1985, which was tied by Kia Williams against Shenandoah University Feb. 25, 1996.
Mattox was an All-Conference first team selection last season. She leads the league in scoring this year with 24.1 points per game and is third in field goal percentage at 53.8% through eight games.
Ferrum (4-4) returns to action Sunday and Monday, Dec. 18-19, at the North-South Classic at Averett University in Danville, Virginia. The Panthers face Piedmont College Sunday at 1:00 p.m., then take on Maryville College Monday at 1:00 p.m.
