FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's Zarkia Mattox has been named USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. The junior from Rocky Mount, Virginia, also earned the honor on Nov. 28, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9.
Mattox averaged 18 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.0 steals and 3.7 assists in three games last week, all USA South wins, helping the Panthers improve to 11-6 overall and remain unbeaten in league play at 6-0. In Ferrum's 70-44 victory over Mary Baldwin University Jan. 18 at home, Mattox had 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals, five assists and a blocked shot. In a 61-36 win over Meredith College Jan. 21 at home, she had 13 points and 10 rebounds. And in the Panthers' 79-60 win over Averett University, she had a game-high 29 points to go with nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists.
Also Nominated this week from around the league were Lauren Biliter of Maryville College, Emma Grimes of Covenant Colege, Jeris Johnson of LaGrange College, Frida Lundquist of Averett, Mikayla Seivers of Salem College and Monica Smalls of Greensboro College.
Ferrum will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, with a pair of USA South road games. The Panthers play at William Peace University Saturday, and at Greensboro College Sunday. Both league games are set to tip off at 2:00 p.m.
