Ferrum's Mattox Named Player of the Week

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's Zarkia Mattox has been named USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. Mattox earned the honor for her effort in one league game last week.

Mattox had 22 points and nine rebounds, both game-high statistics, in Ferrum's 63-51 USA South win over North Carolina Wesleyan College Jan. 6 on the road. She added six assists and six steals for the Panthers, also game-high totals.

Mattox also earned the honor on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12. Also nominated this week from around the league were Rasheika Gregory of Greensboro College, Lauren Johnson of LaGrange College, Makayla Ray of William Peace University, Carlie Shields of Piedmont College, Joanna Smith of Covenant College and Frida Lundquist of Averett University.

Ferrum is 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the USA South. The Panthers return to action this weekend with a pair of USA South home games Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14-15. Ferrum hosts William Peace University Saturday and Greensboro College Sunday. Both games tip off at 2:00 p.m. in Swartz Gym.
