FERRUM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released its 2019 Softball All-Conference Team and two Ferrum College players have been honored. This is Ferrum's first year competing in the league after a 30-year run in the USA South, formerly known as the Dixie Conference.
Freshman Allison McGehee has been named to the All-ODAC second team at the designated player position, while senior second baseman Cheyenne Strickland is a third team At-Large selection. This is Strickland's second career All-Conference honor, including one she earned in the USA South last season.
Player of the Year honors went to Guilford College outfielder Makayla Carver, and Virginia Wesleyan University's Hanna Hull repeated as Pitcher of the Year. Rookie of the Year honors went to Emory & Henry College outfielder Anna Thomas, while Brandon Elliott from Virginia Wesleyan earned Coach of the Year. Guilford outfielder Natalie Conrad and University of Lynchburg pitcher Taylor Belknap were named co-recipients of the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete award.
McGehee batted .268 this season with 10 doubles. She led the Panthers in home runs (7), RBI (33) and slugging percentage (.545), and had a .339 on-base percentage. This is her first All-Conference honor.
Strickland closed the season with a .341 batting average, seven doubles, one home run, 16 RBI, .341 on-base percentage and .413 slugging percentage. She was a USA South second team All-East pick in 2018. Strickland was also an All-Tournament selection and the Most Valuable Player at the 2016 USA South Tournament, which the Panthers won before going on to represented the league at the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament.
