Ferrum, Randolph Split ODAC Softball Doubleheader

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Ferrum College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader with Randolph College this afternoon on the road, taking the opener 5-4 and losing the nightcap 3-2 at RC Softball Field.

Keri Hamlett's inside-the-park home run in the top of the seventh inning broke a 4-4 deadlock and gave the Panthers the game one win. Ferrum trailed 3-0 after four innings but scored four in the top of the fifth, one each on Lois Carpenter's and Hamlet's RBI singles to center field, one on Cheyenne Strickland's RBI double through the left side, and one when Hamlett scored on a throwing error.

Ashton Lambeth scattered seven hits, four earned runs and a walk in a complete seven-inning effort to get the win and improve to 9-3 on the mound this season. Lindsey Chaney went the distance for the WildCats, pitching seven innings with 10 strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Ferrum struck first with a run in the first inning when Arielle Eure scored on a passed ball. The WildCats scored two in the bottom half of the frame and another in the second.

Allison McGehee's RBI double to right field in the third inning scored Bayley Cunningham and trimmed the lead to 3-2, but the Panthers would get no more. Starter Danely Nuckols pitched five innings to get the win, striking out sever Ferrum batters.

Coach Gerald Culler's team will be back in action Sunday, March 31, at home against Eastern Mennonite University. The ODAC doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at American National Bank Field.
