Wasps Sweep Ferrum in Softball

EMORY, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped a non-conference softball doubleheader this afternoon on the road to Emory & Henry College, losing 5-4 in the opener and 10-5 in the nightcap.

Ferrum struck for a run in the third inning, but the Wasps got four in the bottom of the frame, including two on Courtney Herron's homer over the left field fence. Ferrum answered with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but Emory & Henry added a run in the bottom of the inning then held on for the win. Tiffany Cole (2-0) picked up the complete-game win, while Ferrum's Ashton Lambeth (1-1) absorbed the loss.

Game 2
The Panthers opened with a pair of runs in the first inning off Cheyenne Strickland's two-run homer to left field. The Wasps answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed. Ferrum tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning, only to see Emory & Henry explode for five runs in the fifth inning. Cameron Derr (1-0) earned the win in relief, and starter Jasmine Agee got the loss.

Coach Gerald Culler's team will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 20, at Agnes Scott College. The USA South doubleheader is set for a noon start in Decatur, Georgia.
