Softball Swept from USA South Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College eliminated Ferrum College from the 2018 USA South Softball Tournament with a pair of losses in today's opening-round action at Meredith Softball Complex. Meredith took the opening game 3-0, then grabbed a 2-0 win to close out the best-of-three series.

Meredith is the East #5 seed, while Ferrum was the East #5. The Panthers managed just four hits all afternoon. Ashton Lambeth (5-5) got the game one loss, pitching all six innings with five hits, two earned runs and one walk allowed. Taylor Jackson (14-7) got both wins for the Avenging Angels, allowing juts four hits on the day and totaling six strikeouts. Courtney Rudd (9-3) got the loss in game two, despite giving up only four hits and striking out eight.

Coach Gerald Culler's team is scheduled to play Bridgewater College Wednesday, April 18, at home. The non-conference doubleheader is set for 4:00 p.m. at American National Bank Field.
