STAUNTON, Va. -- Ferrum College closed out the 2018 softball season with a pair of non-conference wins over Mary Baldwin University Saturday, April 14, on the road. The Panthers finished 4-0 against the Fighting Squirrels this year, including a USA South doubleheader sweep March 3 in Ferrum.

In the opener, Ferrum led 2-1 after one inning, then exploded for seven runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and a pair in the sixth. Keri Hamlett went 3-4 with three runs and two stolen bases, and Cheyenne Strickland had a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Starter Courtney Rudd (9-3) pitched four full innings to get the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs and a walk, while striking out nine batters. Rudd closed out the season with 98 strikeouts, and her four-year career with 478 striekeouts. In the nightcap, Strickland launched another ball out of the park, this time a two-run shot in the first inning. It was Strickland's fourth home run of the season and gave her a team-high 36 RBI. Starter Jasmine Agee (8-3) pitched 6.2 innings to get the win, allowing three hits, an earned run and a walk with 10 strikeouts. Hamlett went 1-2 in game two, and was a combined 4-6 at the plate in two games with five runs and four stolen bases.
Third-year Head Coach Gerald Culler and the Panthers bid farewell and good luck to three graduating seniors; Rudd, Marieka Peirce and Kali Setzer. Ferrum has 16 players eligible to return for the 2019 season.
