Softball Picked Third in USA South Poll

2018 USA South Preseason Poll

FERRUM, Va. -- The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2018 Softball Preseason Coaches Poll and Ferrum College is picked to finish third in the East Division.

Meredith College is picked to win the East Division, earning 60 points and six first-place votes. Averett University is picked second with 55 points and three first-place votes. Ferrum with 44 points, Salem College with 40 points and William Peace University with 38 points round out the East top five spots.

Piedmont College is picked to win the West Division, grabbing 48 points and six first-place votes. Maryville College is second with 39 points and one first-place vote, followed by Huntingdon College with 34 points and one first-place vote. Covenant College with 32 points and LaGrange College with 31 points round out the West top five.

Ferrum opens the season Sunday, Feb. 11, at non-conference opponent Emory & Henry College. The Panthers begin league play Saturday, March 3, at home against Mary Baldwin University. Head Coach Gerald Culler begins his third season as head coach at Ferrum. Culler has led Ferrum to championship game appearances in the USA South Softball Tournament his first two seasons as head coach, winning the 2016 tournament title and making an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
