Oakes Walk-Off Homer Gives Ferrum Softball Sweep Over Greensboro

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College swept Greensboro College in a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader tonight at home, winning the opener 5-3 then getting a walk-off home run to take the nightcap 4-2 in eight innings at American National Bank Field.

Starter Jasmine Agee (5-3) pitched six innings in the opener to get the win with four hits, three earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Ashton Lambeth picked up her second save of the season, pitching the seventh inning and allowing no hits, runs or walks. Bailey Oakes took the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two, and crushed it over the left field fence for a two-run walk-off homer. Lambeth (3-3) pitched the final three innings and allowed a hit, an earned run and no walks with one strikeout. Cheyenne Strickland went 4-7 in the two games with two RBI for Ferrum, while Tori Scott went 3-7 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Coach Gerald Culler's team will be back in action Friday, March 23, at Salem College. The USA South doubleheader is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
