Ferrum Softball a Tough Nut for Squirrels

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a softball doubleheader sweep at home, beating Mary Baldwin University 9-0 and 9-1 in USA South play this afternoon at American National Bank Field. Both games were stopped in the fifth inning due to the run rule.

Courtney Rudd (5-0) tossed a no-hitter in the opener to remain unbeaten this season, striking out 12 batters. Bailey Oakes went 2-3 at the plate with a double, two runs and three RBI. Starter Jasmine Agee (3-1) earned the nightcap win, pitching three innings and allowing two hits, no earned runs and a walk, with four strikeouts. Ashton Lambeth tossed the final two innings, allowing one hit, no runs and no walks, with one strikeout. Cheyenne Strickland went 3-3 with two runs for Ferrum in game two, while Tori Scott and Keri Hamlett both both went 2-3 with a run. Courteney Back (0-2) and Kate Dickinson (0-2) each absorbed a loss for the Fighting Squirrels.

Coach Gerald Culler's team will be back in action Wednesday, March 7, at home against Roanoke College. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
