Ferrum Headed to NCAA Softball Tournament
FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College softball team departed Wednesday, May 9, headed to Newport News, Virginia for the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Led by 22nd-year Head Coach Vickie Van Kleeck, the 2012 Panthers (35-12) are making the program's third trip to the NCAA Tournament, including 2002 and 2005.

Twelve players, Van Kleeck, Assistant Coaches Gerald Culler and George Matherly, and Assistant Athletic Trainer Mary Jo Ritchie (MJ) boarded the bus at 8:15 a.m. and traveled down on Virginia Route 40-East to start the first leg of the nearly five-hour trip that will run from Ferrum to Newport News.  The Panthers will play in an eight-team regional hosted by Christopher Newport University.

Ferrum opens the NCAA Tournament against #17 Satisbury University Thursday, May 10, at 2 p.m.  Emory University is the top seeded team in the regional, followed by CNU, Salisbury, Messiah College, Roanoke College, Ferrum, Darmingdale State College and McDaniel College.
