Ferrum earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament by virtue of winning the 2012 USA South Tournament last month.  The Panthers won five straight games to close out the tournament, including a pair of wins over #10 Christopher Newport in the title games.

This is Ferrum's third NCAA playoff berth.  Coach Vickie Van Kleeck led her 2002 team to the USA South title and a first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, then accomplished the same feat in 2005.

The Panthers are led by three All-Conference first team selections; OF Karly Thompson (.429 avg, 12 doubles, 3 triples, 4 HR, 40 RBI), P/2B Hannah Shumaker (.409 avg, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 HR, 33 RBI, 90 strikeouts) and P Kaitlyn Culler (17-2 record, 1.25 ERA, 84 strikeouts).  Shumaker was the MVP of the 2012 USA South Tournament, posting impressive pitching and hitting performances, while making a number of fielding web gems.
