WINCHESTER, Va. -- Ferrum College split a USA South softball doubleheader this afternoon at Shenandoah University, dropping the opener 3-1 and winning the nightcap 7-0.

Kaitlyn Culler pitched six innings to get the win in the second game, allowing five hits, no hits or walks and striking out two.  Culler improved to 13-2 this season with the win, 7-1 against USA South opponents.

Rachel Shumaker pitched the final frame of game two, facing four batters in the seventh inning without allowing a hit.  Shumaker had a base hit in both games, including a triple in the opener.  Shelbie Hall and Karly Thompson had two base hits each in game two.

Ferrum (27-9, 11-4 USA South) plays net on Friday, April 6, at Methodist University.  The USA South doubleheader gets underway at 1 p.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team plays Saturday, April 7, against Guilford College on the road.  The non-conference doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
