FERRUM, Va. -- Chloe Brzycki had a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning of the nightcap to help Ferrum College complete a USA South sweep over Peace College this afternoon at Franklin Community Bank Field.
Brzycki had a solo homer in the third inning of game one, as the Panthers won 9-3. Playing in her last home games, senior Hannah Shumaker pitched a complete seven-inning game in the opener, allowing three hits and striking out 12. She went 2-2 at the plate with a double, two runs, an RBI and a sacrifice fly.
In the nightcap, senior Brittany Barlow went 3-3 with a double and an RBI. Starter Kaitlyn Culler pitched five innings to get the win. She allowed two hits, no runs or walks, and struck out five. In the two-game series, Brzycki went 6-8 with two home runs, three runs and seven RBI. She leads the team in home runs with four and is second in RBI with 28. Shumaker, Barlow and Nicole Hinkley were honored with a Senior Day ceremony before the opener.
Ferrum (26-8, 10-4 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, April 4, against Shenandoah University. The USA South doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. in Winchester, Virginia. The Hornets are the defending USA South Tournament champs and played in the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament.
