Softball Takes Two at Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. -- Rachel Shumaker pitched four innings in relief to get the win in the opener as Ferrum College beat Mary Baldwin College twice in USA South softball play tonight on the road.

Shumaker allowed two hits, no runs and a walk, and struck out five in the opener.  Shumaker went 2-3 at the plate with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

In the nightcap, Kylene Culler went 3-4 with a double to help Ferrum sweep the Fighting Squirrels (5-18, 0-11 USA South).  Kaitlyn Culler pitched four innings in relief, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Ferrum (23-7, 7-3 USA South) returns to action Thursday, March 29, at home against Greensboro College.  The USA South doubleheader gets underway at 6 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank Field.  Ferrum and Greensboro were originally scheduled to play March 20 in Ferrum, but the games were rained out.
