FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College split a USA South softball doubleheader with visiting Meredith College this afternoon at Franklin Community Bank Field.  Meredith won the opener 3-2, but the Panthers bounced back to take the nightcap 3-1.

Kylene Culler had a solo home run in the fourth inning of game one for Ferrum.  Starter Hannah Shumaker earned the loss, allowing 10 hits over five innings with three earned runs.  Shumaker allowed two walks and struck out five.

In the nightcap, Shelbie Hall went 1-3 with a double, two RBI and a run.  Starter Kaitlyn Culler earned the win, throwing five innings with six hits, one earned run, no strikeouts and a pair of strikeouts.  Rachel Shumaker pitched the final two innings to earn the save.  She allowed no hits or runs, and walked one.

Alex Warren had a solo homer in the third inning on game one for the Avenging Angels (16-8, 4-4 USA South), while teammate Amanda White had a third-inning solo shot in the second game.

Ferrum (21-5, 5-3 USA South) takes on Lynchburg College at home Sunday, March 25.  The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank Field.
