FERRUM, Va. -- Pol Lambea scored a pair of goals with Chris Resendiz and Jeffery Calix adding two assists apiece as Ferrum College posted an 8-2 non-conference men's soccer win over visiting Bethany College (WV) this afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.
It was all Ferrum from the beginning, netting the opening goal of the match in the fist minute, off the foot of Calix. The Bison answered with a goal of their own in the 21st minute, but the Panthers answered right back with an Enzo Guercio goal just a minute later. Lambea would add his first of two goals on the night in the 38th minute to push the halftime lead to 3-1.
Bethany scored first in the second half, making it a one-goal game, but that would be as close as the Bison would get the rest of the night. Lambea netted his second goal of the night, followed by Felipe Artega, Thomas Roth, Gio Murillo, and Alejandro Ramirez. Resendiz helped fuel the Panther attack, adding two assists on the night, as did Calix. Murillo also added an assist to go long with his goal.
Daniel Golden earned the win in the net for the Panthers, playing 84 minutes. Torben Grether played the full 90 minutes for the Bison, recording five saves and taking the loss.
BEHIND THE WHISTLE
"After a slow start the lads really showed what they can do in certain areas. We have work to do, but it is always nice to get a win at home in hot conditions. Also, to get minutes for guys and some goals and assists was an added bonus. We will get back to work tomorrow." --Head Coach Enda Crehan
Crehan's squad will hit the road Friday, September 13, to take on Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The first whistle is set for 5:00 p.m. in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
