GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro College broke a 3-3 tie at the break with three goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth to grab a 9-5 non-conference men's lacrosse win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Pride Field.
It took Greensboro all of seven seconds to open scoring with Patrick Bell drawing first blood. The Panthers responded with a goal each from Jacob Boswell and Mackoy Bodmer to go out in front 2-1 after one quarter.
Ronald Carney made it 3-1 when he beat Greensboro goalkeeper Kyle Ishler at 4:49 of the second quarter. David Miller scored two goals in less than a minute before the end of the first half and the two teams were deadlocked at 3-3 at halftime.
Carney scored his second goal of the game 1:41 into the third quarter for a 4-3 Panther lead, but Greensboro got hot and scored four straight to take a 7-4 lead five minutes into the fourth quarter. Jack Sheehan found the back of the net for Ferrum's final goal and trimmed the lead to 7-5 with 5:25 left in regulation, but that was as close as the Panthers would get. Greensboro added a pair of insurance goals in the waning moments of play.
Greensboro: Miller 2 goals; Philip Gerber 2 goals; Spencer Kontoulas goal, 2 asst;
Ishler 60 min, 6 saves
Ferrum: Carney 2 goals; Sheehan goal, 2 asst; GK Koby McMahon 60 min, 12 saves
Coach Mike Baggetta's team will be back in action Saturday, March 2, at home against Grove City College. The non-conference game gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
