JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The Ferrum College men's golf team closed out play at the 2019 Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, held Friday through Sunday, March 15-17, at the Jekyll Island Golf Club Pine Lakes and Oleander courses.
Emory University won the team title with a three-day score of 858, three strokes better than runner-up Huntingdon College (861). Illinois Wesleyan University (864), host Oglethorpe University (866) and Methodist University (868) rounded out the top five teams. Ferrum finished last in the 30-team field at 1003.
Huntingdon's Stephen Shephard earned medalist after carding a 204. Shephard's teammate, Drew Mathers, finished four strokes back at 208. Methodist's Larkin Gross (209), Emory's Logan Ryan (211) and Oglethorpe's Anthony DeRosa (211) rounded out the top five golfers in a field of 150 individuals.
All-American Lance Keiser was Ferrum's top finisher, carding a 227 to finish tied for 73rd. Hunter Shelton finished a stroke behind Keiser at 228, tying for 77th. Brad Green (270), Adam Keiser (278) and Matthew Henninger (322) rounded out Ferrum's five entries.

"The tournament didn't go the way we pictured going into it. I'm really proud of the guys for giving 100% everyday and not giving up after the firstst round. That being said, we have several areas we need to improve on going into the next tournament.
