OBERLIN, Ohio -- Ferrum College dropped its second field hockey game in as many days, falling 7-2 to Concordia University-Wisconsin in a neutral-site game played at Oberlin College.
Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in the non-conference win. Dominique Harper helped Ferrum avoid the shutout with a goal in the 20th minute of play. The Falcons rattled off four more goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead, but Ferrum closed the game with a goal by Brianna Sawyer at 61:51.
Sam Dunn had three goals and an assist for CUW, while Megan McPike had three goals. Mia Holmes played all 70 minutes in net for the Panthere and made 11 saves. Katelyn Fitzgerald did the same for Concordia with one stop.
"I was pleased to see us continue to battle despite falling behind early. Dominique played really well and it was good to see her score her first collegiate goal. We played great team hockey in spurts. We're going to put a big emphasis on consistency and playing together for a full 70 minutes in the coming week as we prepare for Wesley and Goucher." -- Head Coach Carrie Hanshue Austin
Austin's team will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 8, at Wesley Colege. The non-conference game gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
