FERRUM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced its 2018 Field Hockey Preseason Poll, with Washington & Lee University grabbing the top spot. The University of Lynchburg and Roanoke College are picked to finish second and third, respectively. The Genreals won last year's ODAC Tournament with an overtime win over Lynchburg. It was W&L's second field hockey title.

Ferrum has been picked to finish last of the nine ODAC schools that compete in the sport of field hockey. The Panthers are led by Head Coach Carrie Austin, who begins her fifth season at the helm of the program. Ferrum finished 5-14 overall last season and 1-5 in the Southern Athletic Association, which the Panthers held membership for in field hockey only. Austin's top returning player is senior midfielder Sierra Magdaleno, who posted 24 points last season on seven goals and 10 assists.

Ferrum opens the season Friday, Aug. 31, at Oberlin College. The non-conference game is set to start at 11:00 a.m. in Oberlin, Ohio. Austin's team will play its inaugural ODAC contest Saturday, Sept. 29, at home against Bridgewater College starting at 1:00 p.m.
