FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College running back Brian Mann has been named to the 2018 D3football.com All-South Region second team. This is Mann's second All-Region honor in as many years, having earned third team a year ago from the online publication.
A junior from Pearisburg, Virginia, Mann rushed 244 times for a school record 1605 yards this season and scored 15 touchdowns. He also made seven receptions for 27 yards, and returned eight kickoffs for 269 yards and a score.
Mann finished in the top 20 in several NCAA Division III statistical categories this year. He now owns 14 school records after three seasons with the Panthers, including game, season and career rushing yards.
An All-Conference first team selection this season by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Mann has now been named first team All-Conference three times, including twice by the USA South Athletic Conference in 2016 and 2017. He was also the USA South Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. Only five student-athletes at Ferrum have ever been named first team All-Conference four straight years.
Mann and the Panthers closed out the season with a 5-5 overall record, tying for fourth place in the ODAC final standings with a 3-4 league mark. In 10 games this year, he rushed for 100 or more yards seven times, including four 200-yard games. Mann had a game-high 148 yards rushing on 32 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns to help Ferrum upset Randolph-Macon College 28-23 Nov. 23 in Ashland, Virginia. The Yellow Jackets won the 2018 ODAC title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Div. III playoffs.
