FERRUM, Va. -- Jared Wright's 31-yard field goal as time expired was the difference as Washington & Lee Uiniversiy beat Ferrum College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference football action, winning 38-35 this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium.

Josh Breece scored for Washington & Lee on the first play, 21 seconds into the game, a 64-yard run down the right side, then made the score 14-0 with a 39-yard scamper with 2:06 left in the first quarter. Brian Mann trimmed the lead to 14-7 when he returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.
The two teams traded scores through the second quarter, including Quentin Wallace's 8-yard TD catch from Zack Clifford 17 seconds before halftime to tie the score at 28-28, following Aaron Branch's 53-yard fumble return. Breece scored again midway through the third quarter on a 37-yard run, then Mann rumbled in from 33 yards out to tie the score at 35-35 with 4:52 left in regulation.
Washington & Lee then drove 55 yards in 12 plays to the Ferrum 14 yard line on the game's final drive, where Wright split the uprights for the game-winning field goal.
