VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- #5 seeded Ferrum College fell 8-5 in the second game to #4 Virginia Wesleyan University in the opening weekend series of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament this afternoon at Kenneth R. Perry Field.

Virginia Wesleyan broke a 1-1 stalemate with a run in the third inning, then exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead. The Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, then added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth before the rally came up short.
The Marlins will continue play in the ODAC Tournament next weekend at Salem Memorial Ballpark in Salem, Virginia, where four teams will vie for the ODAC crown and the chance to represent the league in the NCAA Div. III Tournament.
Also advancing with Virginia Wesleyan was top seed Randolph-Macon College. The other two spots will be claimed by the winners of the #3 Shenandoah vs. #6 Hampden-Sydney series and the #2 Roanoke vs. #7 Lynchburg series.

The loss eliminated Coach Ryan Brittle's team from the tournament and ended the Panthers' season. Ferrum loses six seniors to graduation this spring, while 33 players are eligible to return for the 2020 season.
