WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After a time change and then a venue change, Ferrum College's baseball team dropped a pair of games today to Marymount University in a non-conference doubleheader played at Gallaudet University. The Saints opened with a 4-3 win in the opener, which was schedule as a seven-inning game. Marymount then completed the sweep with a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, Ferrum scored its three runs in the top of the third inning on singles by Connor Dopp, Nathaniel Anthony, and Tim Ortega. Marymount scored four runs in the fourth, then hung on for the win. Ryan Bergenhag struck out eight Panther batters to get the win.
In the nightcap, the Saints built a 3-0 lead through seven inning before Jake Martin's two-run homer to left field in the eighth inning cut the lead to 3-2. That was all the Panthers would get as Marymount tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth.
