FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's Tim Ortega has been named to the Team of the Week for his play in three games last week. This is the first such honor for a Ferrum player this season, and Ortega's first ever honor

A junior catcher/DH from Bluffton, South Carolina, Ortega was 9-13 at the plate in three games last week for a .692 batting average and a pair of home runs. He added a double and a triple, scored seven runs and drove in six in helping the Panthers post a 3-0 mark for the week.

Ferrum beat Averett University 5-0 in non-conference action March 5 at Panther Field, then picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference road wins over Eastern Mennonite University, 7-5 and 14-8, March 10 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Ortega currently leads the team in batting average (.436), home runs (5), RBI (20), hits (24), on-base percentage (.529) and slugging percentage (.836).

The Panthers return to action Saturday, March 16, at home against Bridgewater College. The ODAC doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at Panther Field, with live stats and video both available. Coach Ryan Brittle's team brings an 11-5 overall record, including a 4-0 ODAC mark, and a seven-game win streak into the weekend series. Live Stats | Video
