FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped a non-conference baseball game to Denison University, falling 6-5 this afternoon at Panther Field. The contest was the third in a three-game series over the past two days, including a doubleheader yesterday in which the Panthers took the opener 7-6 then fell 16-7 in the nightcap.
Tim Ortega had a solo home run in the first inning to Ferrum put in front. Denison scored a run each in the second and third innings, then Ortega lined a single to center field in the third inning to score Grey Sherfey and tie the game at 2-2. Denison scored two runs in the top of the fourth, then added a run in the seventh for a 5-2 lead.
Ferrum scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, two in Nathaniel Anthony's RBI single up the middle and one on Jake Martin's RBI double. The Big Red pushed a run across in the top of the ninth inning, but Ferrum was unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will be back in action with a single nine-inning game Tuesday, Feb. 26, at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The non-conference game is set for a 2:00 p.m. start in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
