Ferrum Splits Baseball Doubleheader with Dension

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader with visiting Denison University this afternoon at home, winning the opener 7-6 and dropping the nightcap 16-7 at Panther Field.

Jake Martin went 2-5 with a home run and three RBI, and Kyle Anstice went 3-4 with an RBI as the Panthers grabbed the opener. Starter Joey Pride (W, 2-0) pitched six innings with eight strikeouts to get the win. Denison starter Danny Brackman (0-1) got the loss after giving up seven hits and four earned runs over 4.1 innings.

In the nightcap, Denison belted 16 base hits to collect the win. Anstice went 2-4 with two homers and three RBI in the loss. Grady Paine went 3-3 with a homer, three runs and four runs for the Big Red. Ferrum starter Drew Calohan (L, 1-2) absorbed the loss, allowing six hits, six earned runs and five walks over six innings. John Troll (W, 1-0) pitched 3.2 innings in relief to get the win, allowing five hits, five earned runs and two walks.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will play the rubber game of a three-game series with Denison Monday, Feb. 25. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Panther Field. Live stats and video will be available.
