Ferrum Tops Oneonta, Completes Weekend Baseball Sweep

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College completed a three-game weekend baseball sweep over SUNY-Oneonta with today's 16-2 win at Panther Field. The Panthers also won Saturday by scores of 8-2 and 4-0.

THE BASICS
Nathaniel Anthony, Brandon Roberts and Jake Martin scored a run each in the first inning, then Corey Stoneman belted a two-run homer to left field in the second inning to give the Panthers a 5-1 lead. Ferrum tacked on three runs in the fourth inning, two courtesy of Jake Martin's RBI single to left field, and the rout was on.

Martin drove in another run in the sixth with an RBI double to right field that allowed Anthony to cross the plate. The Panthers exploded for five more runs in the seventh inning, two on Stoneman's double to left field, and two in the eighth inning. Ferrum closed the game with 14 base hits to Oneonta's four.

Starter Mitch Custer scattered three hits over four innings, allowing one earned run and three walks, while striking out two. Reliever Drew Calohan pitched four innings in relief to get the win, striking out five.

NEXT GAME
Brittle's bunch will host a six-game, four-team tournament Friday through Sunday, Feb. 22-24, at Panther Field. Ferrum will face Baldwin Wallace College Friday at 3:30 p.m., U-Mass Dartmouth Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Denison University Sunday at 2:30 p.m. A second game between the other two teams will be played each day as well.
