FERRUM, Va. -- The 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Baseball Preseason Poll has been announced and Ferrum College has been tabbed sixth among the field of 12 schools that sponsor the sport.
The 2019 season is Ferrum's first year in the ODAC after having spent the past 30 years in the USA South Athletic Conference.
The Panthers earned 71 points in a vote of the league's head baseball coaches to land in sixth place. Randolph-Macon College has been picked to win the 2019 ODAC title, earning 119 points and nine first place points. Shenandoah University was picked second with 110 points and a pair of first-place nods, followed by Roanoke College with 96 points and a first-place vote.

Senior infielder Nathaniel Anthony is the top returning hitter from a year ago. Anthony batted .367 with 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 25 RBI. Junior catcher Tim Ortega batted .333 with six doubles, two homers and 19 RBI. Drew Calohan pitched and played the field, closing the season with a 5-2 record on the mound and batting .233 with three doubles and 14 RBI.
Ferrum is led by sixth-year Head Coach Ryan Brittle. The Panthers closed out the 2018 season at 17-24 overall and 10-7 in the USA South. Ferrum opens the season with two games Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9-10, at Christopher Newport University. Both non-conference games start at 1:00 p.m. in Newport News, Virginia.
