BOX SCORE

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and secure an 8-4 non-conference win over York College of Pennsylvania May 2 at home.

Jason Butterworth's single through the left side in the eighth drove in Michael Nolte for the winning run. Gabe Moncada went 3-4 with a double, and a run.

Nick Entsminger got the win for Ferrum (15-15), pitching the final two innings in relief of starter Jon Wilson, allowing one hit and striking out two.  Wilson scattered 12 hits and four earned runs over seven innings, walked two and struck out six.

York (27-14) was led by Matt Monti, who went 3-5 with two doubles, and two runs. Starter Jason Christenberry absorbed the loss, giving up nine hits and four earned runs over 7.1 innings.  He struck out five Ferrum batters.

Ferrum was scheduled to host York again Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. but rain has cancelled the game.  The Panthers close out the 2009 season when they host the University of Mary Washington Monday, May 4.  The non-conference doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. at Panther Field.
