BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The Ferrum College softball team closed out its season at the 2009 USA South Tournament April 17-18 at Springwood Park in Burlington, North Carolina.

Ferrum, the #7 seed, opened the tournament with a 5-0 shutout win over #10 Mary Baldwin College.  The Panthers then suffered a 2-0 loss to #2 Shenandoah University later in the day.  Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team was then eliminated with a 5-2 loss to #9 North Carolina Wesleyan College April 18.

Against Mary Baldwin, Lauren Rizzo went 2-3 with a double and a run.  Brittany Barlow went 2-3 in the loss to Shenandoah.  And in the loss to North Carolina Wesleyan, Hannah Shumaker went 4-4 with a double and an RBI.

Ferrum closes out its season at 18-21.  The Panthers graduate just two seniors this May, Lauren Rizzo and Lauren Thurman.
