FERRUM, Va. – Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced the hiring of Jonathan Freeman as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Ferrum College. Freeman replaces Rod Baker ’03, who stepped down in November to pursue other opportunities after three years at the helm of the program.

Freeman comes to Ferrum from NCAA Div. II Ashland University in Ohio where he served the past five years as Assistant Men's and Women's Soccer Coach. At Ashland, Freeman was involved with all facets of both soccer programs, including on field coaching, daily goalkeeper training, recruiting, strength and conditioning, travel and scouting.

Prior to his tenure at Ashland, Freeman served four years as Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Radford University. He served as recruiting coordinator at Radford, as was on staff when the Highlanders won the 2000 Big South title and made an appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Freeman also has extensive experience with boys and girls club soccer, working with teams in Blacksburg and Ashland. He has worked summer soccer camps at Radford, Ashland and Wooster College the past 13 years.

Freeman earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Wooster in the spring of 2000. A native of Blacksburg, Virginia, Freeman prepped at Blacksburg High School under Shelly Blumenthal, who has led Blacksburg to eight Virginia state titles. Freeman begins work at Ferrum this week.
