BURLINGTON, N.C. -- #6 seed Ferrum College suffered a 5-1 first round loss to #3 Greensboro College in the first round of the 2008 USA South Baseball Tournament, at Burlington Royals Stadium in Burlington, North Carolina.

Ferrum got on the board first when outfielder DJ Phillips singled up the middle and stole second, advanced to third on a single by catcher Nick Baker and scored on a single by third baseman Eric Harrell.

Greensboro answered with a run in the bottom on the first and two in the second, a two-run homer by Lyle Donaldson, to take a 3-1 lead after two innings.  The Pride plated a run each in the fifth and seventh innings for the win.

Phillips went 2-5 with a triple, a run and a stolen base.  Harrell went 2-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases.  Brian Mays absorbed the loss for Ferrum, pitching six innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs.  Mays struck out five and walked three.  Jon Wilson pitched two innings in releif of Mays, allowing one hit and an earned run, while striking out two and walking none.

Ferrum (8-20) play again April 18, at 9:30 a.m. against #7 Averett University in an elimination game.  The winner will play again at 2:30 p.m. today against the loser of the #2 N.C. Wesleyan vs. #3 Greensboro game.
