Lauren Rizzo, All-Conference 2nd Team
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The USA South Athletic Conference has named its 2008 All-Conference Softball Team, and Ferrum College junior first baseman Lauren Rizzo has been named to the second team.

2008 USA South All-Conference Softball Team

This is Rizzo's first All-Conference selection.  Through 38 game, Rizzo leads the team with a .407 batting average.  She also also has a team-high 32 RBI this season, collecting six doubles and one home run.  Rizzo is 4-4 in stolen bases and has a near-perfect .996 fielding percentage in 237 defensive plays.

Junior Lauren Thurman was Ferrum's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Shenandoah University's Katie Haskins and Cat Pruiett earned Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. 

Shenandoah Head Coach Marlena Kotynski was named Coach of the Year after leading the Hornets to the regular season title with a 15-3 league record and a 28-10 overall mark.  Shenandoah will be the top seed in this weekend's USA South Tournament.

Methodist University's Rebekah Kelly earned Player of the Year honors, while teammate Hannah Stutts was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year.

Ferrum (17-21) will play as the #6 seed in this weekend's 2008 USA South Softball Tournament.  The Panthers begin play Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m. against #3 seed Methodist University.  The tournament is being held at Springwood Park in Burlington, North Carolina.
