FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College freshman Katie Duff has been named USA South Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week for her part in four games last week.
Duff pitched 12 innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs (6 earned). She faced 44 batters, striking out 21 and walking seven.
In Ferrum's 11-1 win over Mary Baldwin College March 18, Duff fanned 14 batters, two shy of the single-game school record of 16. Duff also went 1-2 at the plate last week with an RBI.
This is the first Rookie of the Week honor for Duff, who hails from Madison Heights, Virginia, and prepped at Holy Cross.
Ferrum swept Mary Baldwin March 18 on the road and split with Peace College March 21 to go 3-1 last week. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team is currently 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the USA South.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, March 26, at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. The USA South doubleheader is slated to start at 3 p.m.
