Sophomore outfielder Jessica Flanagan belted a solo home run to lead off the third inning of game #1.
STAUNTON, Va. -- Ferrum College swept a pair of USA South softball games from Mary Baldwin College March 18 on the road, winning 12-3 and 11-1.

In the first game, freshman Katie Duff struck out 14 batters to get the win. Her effort was just two strikeouts short of the school record 16 that former standout Stacy Porter set when she K'd 16 against Christopher Newport University in April of 2002. Duff scattered four hits over six innings in a game that was halted due to the 8-run rule. She allowed three earned runs and walked just two.
Junior first baseman Lauren Rizzo went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs. Sophomore outfielder Jessica Flanagan belted a solo homer to lead off the top of the third inning.
In the second game, senior Kryestyn Matherly pitched a complete 6-inning game for the win. She allowed five hits and one earned run, struck out three and walked none. Rizzo went 3-4 again, with two RBI and a run. Freshman outfielder Megan Barger went 2-4 with a double, two RBI and a run.
Ferrum (8-10, 2-0 USA South) returns to action Friday, March 21 in its home-opener. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team will face Peace College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
