In the first game of the day, Ferrum led Shenandoah 9-0 in the sixth inning when Hornets shortstop Jolisa Jones belted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 9-4.

Shenandoah added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including another grand slam, this time by catcher Catherine Beuerle.

Ferrum plated two more runs in the top of the eighth, courtesy of a two-run homer by first baseman Lauren Rizzo, to take an 11-9 lead.

The Hornets answered right back in the bottom of the frame with three runs.  Centerfielder Katie Haskins drove in the winning runs with a 2-RBI single to right field to cap the come-from-behind win.

In the loss to Emory & Henry, Ferrum was held to just three base hits.  Katie Duff pitched all seven innings for Ferrum, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while striking out six and walking one.

Next up for Ferrum (6-10) is Mary Baldwin College on Tuesday, March 18.  The doubleheader, Ferrum's USA South Athletic Conference opener, is set to start at 230 p.m. in Staunton, Virginia.
