FERRUM, Va. -- Greensboro College scored a run each in the top of the eighth and ninth innings to eke out a 6-4 USA South Athletic Conference baseball win over Ferrum College March 16 in Ferrum.

With the scored tied 4-4, Greensboro (16-8, 2-1 USA South) first baseman Dan Poindexter solo homered to lead off the eighth inning. Second baseman Jeff Gregory matched that with a solo homer to lead off the ninth. Gregory went 2-4 this afternoon, as did shortstop Jacob Tomb and centerfielder Kyle Bolick.

Ferrum was led by second baseman Jason Butterworth, who went 3-5 with a pair of runs and third baseman Eric Harrel, who went 3-5.

Kit Mock got the win for Greensboro (16-8, 2-1 USA South). Mock scattered 15 hits over 8.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. Lincoln Garner took the loss for Ferrum. He pitched eight innings and allowed eight hits and three earned runs, while striking out one and walking one.

Ferrum (5-7, 2-3 USA South) returns to action tomorrow at home against Greensboro at 7 p.m. The Panthers play at Lynchburg College March 18 at 6 p.m., then return home for a March 19 game against King College at 3 p.m.
