DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament with a 91-51 win over #5 seeded Shenandoah University in the quarterfinal round Feb. 27 at Averett University. Ferrum is the tournament's #4 seed.

Sophomore Tonya Wright led all scorers with 20 points on 7-11 shooting. She connected on all three of her three-point attempts, went 3-3 at the line, and pulled down four rebounds. Wright was last season's USA South Rookie of the Year.
Four other players scored in double figures for the Panthers ... junior Miranda Carrasco had 16 points, senior ali Davenport had 11 points to with 11 rebounds, Tiesha Terry had 11 points and Kierra Parker had 10 points.
Shenandoah (11-15) trailed early, falling behind 20-6 less than seven minutes into the game. The Hornets trailed Ferrum 51-21 at halftime, largely due to 19 first-half turnovers. Sierra Edwards had 12 points to lead the Hornets, while Katherine Flint had 10.
Ferrum advances to the semifinals Friday, Feb. 29, at 2 p.m. in Newport News. The Panthers will face top-seeded Greensboro College. The two teams split this season's home-away series, each winning on the road. The other semifinal will pit #2 Christopher Newport against #3 Methodist University at 6 p.m.
