FERRUM, Va. -- Three Ferrum College women's basketball players were named to the 2008 USA South Women's Basketball All-Conference team, led by senior Ali Davenport, who earned first team honors.
2007 USA South Women's Basketball All-Conference Team
Davenport leads Ferrum in both scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg) this season. She was also a first team selection last year, and earned a spot in the Virginia Sports Information Directors' All-State second team.
Christopher Newport University freshman Chelsie Schweers was named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, while Greensboro College's Jason Tuggle was named Coach of the Year.
Junior Miranda Carrasco and freshman Brittney Bullock are All-Conference honorable mentions. Carrasco is averaging 14.2 points per game thus far, while Bullock is averaging 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds. Sophomore Tiesha Terry was named to the USA South's All-Sportsmanship Team.
Ferrum advanced to the semifinal round of the 2008 USA South Tournament with a 91-51 drubbing of #5 seed Shenandoah University in the quarterfinal round Feb. 27. The #4 seeded Panthers face #1 Greensboro Friday, Feb. 29, at 2 p.m. in Newport News. The other semifinal will pit #2 Christopher Newport against #3 Methodist University Friday at 6 p.m. The championship game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 1, in Newport News.
