FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College's first round games of the 2008 USA South Athletic Conference Basketball Tournaments have been moved to Danville, Virginia, on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
The women's quarterfinal game against Shenandoah University and the men's quarterfinal game against North Carolina Wesleyan College will be played tonight at Averett University. Averett is also a member of the USA South.
The change of venue was forced by an emergency situation on the Ferrum campus Tuesday, Feb. 26, when a suspicious person was reported on campus early the morning. Authorities promptly initiated an immediate lockdown of Ferrum College, postponing the two games scheduled to be hosted by the Panthers.
The women's game, in which Ferrum is the #4 seed and Shenandoah is the #5 seed, is now scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Averett's North Campus. The men's game, in which Ferrum is the #2 seed and N.C. Wesleyan is the #7 seed, will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The winners of tonights games will advance to the semifinals, to be held Friday, Feb. 29, in Newport News, Virginia. Christopher Newport University is hosting the semifinals and championships for both the men's and women's tournaments.
